The six stages

Every stage, as it really is.

Completed means done and shown. In progress means started, not finished. Planned means it has not started. A person moves a stage forward when the work is real; nothing advances on its own.

  1. Stage 01Status: Completed

    The idea

A small object for your desk with an expressive face and a focus timer.

We wrote down the problem, the smallest version worth building, and why it starts on a desk rather than in a pocket. The first journal entry explains the thinking.

    Completed

Next Build a first prototype on the bench.

  2. Stage 02Status: In progress

    Building the prototype

Turning the concept into a first working version on the bench.

The first parts are picked: a small ESP32 board, a tiny OLED display, a speaker, a microphone and a battery. The eyes are being designed for a screen 128 by 64 pixels. We have not published a working prototype yet.

    Updated

Next Get the face and the timer running on the board, then put it in front of people.

  3. Stage 03Status: Planned

    Testing the experience

Putting the prototype in front of people who did not build it.

Does the face help someone focus, or does it distract them? We will watch real people use it and write up what we see, including what does not work.

Next Decide whether the product deserves to be made in numbers.

  4. Stage 04Status: Planned

    Preparing for production

Working out whether, and how, it can be made reliably.

The enclosure, sourcing parts, safety and cost. This stage only starts if testing shows the product is worth making.

Next Make and check the first finished units.

  5. Stage 05Status: Planned

    Getting your product ready

Making, checking and packing finished units.

Each unit assembled, switched on and checked before it is packed. Nothing can be reserved or bought today.

Next Send finished units to the people waiting for one.

  6. Stage 06Status: Planned

    On its way to you

Shipping finished units to people who reserved one.

The last step. Physical production and delivery have not started.

Next On your desk, switched on.

The road ahead
