Drawing the eyes
The eyes have one job: make the object feel present without asking for attention.
The eyes have one job: make the object feel present without asking for attention. That is harder than it sounds. A face that does too much becomes the thing you are trying to ignore.
Our rules so far. It blinks at irregular intervals, because regular blinking looks mechanical. It looks toward your pointer or your touch, slowly. It has only a few expressions, and each one should be readable at a glance from across a desk. It is calm by default and reacts only when you do something.
The concept on the shop page is a sketch of this behaviour running in your browser. It is not footage of the device. Making it small enough to run on a microcontroller is a separate problem, and we will find out how hard it is once we try.
What we are unsure about: whether the eyes help or distract during a long focus session. We suspect they should do less than we first imagined. We will test that with real people before we decide.
