Choosing the first parts
The first parts for the desk companion: a small ESP32 board, a tiny OLED display, a speaker, a microphone and a battery.
This week we picked the first parts for the desk companion.
The board is a XIAO ESP32-S3 Sense. It is small, it has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and it has a microphone and camera built in. The display is a 0.96 inch OLED, 128 by 64 pixels. It is small, which suits a face made of a few simple shapes. For sound there is a 2 inch speaker with an I2S amplifier, plus a separate digital microphone module. A 3.7 V rechargeable battery powers it. Physical buttons for the timer are planned.
Each part is there for a reason: the board to run everything, the display for the eyes, the speaker and microphone for sound, the battery so it can sit on a desk without a cable.
This is a concept, and nothing here is for sale. Next, we will go through the parts one by one.
